Perpetual Trophies for 2009

President’s award

This trophy is selected by the president for contribution to club.  It can be a swimmer, parent of volunteer.

CASC Age champions – male and female

Trophies are awarded for the age categories:  8 and under, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and over.  There are separate male and female trophies.

The winner is determined by the combined points from club championships and points for improvement during the year.  Points are awarded for personal best (PB) swims on official times submitted to ACT Swimming.  If a swimmer transfers part way through the year only swims as a CASC member will count.

Long course times are compared to the long course PB and similarly for short course races. No conversions are done to determine the points using this system.

There are double points for any PBs at (it is hard to get PBs at Club Championships) or first swims at club championships.

The points are awarded as follows:

  • First time the swimmer ever swims a particular event:  1 point
  • Each individual swim at club championships (to encourage participation):  1 point
  • For a PB between 0.01 and 1.00 seconds: 1 point
  • For a PB between 1.01 and 2.00 seconds:  2 points
  • For a PB between 2.01 and 3.00 seconds:  3 points
  • For a PB of more than 3.01 seconds:  4 points
  • For every race at NSW Country Championships, with or without a PB: 1 point
  • For every race at NSW State Championships, with or without a PB: 2 points
  • For every race at Australian Championships, with or without a PB: 3 points

Fastest 100 free – make and female

This trophy is for the fastest 100 free swim during the swimming year (long or short course without conversion).  These trophies have been awarded by CASC for over 50 years.

Coaches Award (2 – one Civic and one AIS)

The winner is selected by the coaches for best attitude to training and competing.  This award can be given to a swimmer at any level.

Most improved  (4 – one junior and one senior at each pool)

These awards are selected by the coaches for overall improvement in both training effort and competition.

Encouragement  (2 – one Civic and one AIS)

These awards are also determined by the coaches for the most conspicuous effort in training and competition and can be awarded to a swimmer at any level.

Stroke awards; Free; Butterfly; Backstroke; Breaststroke and IM

There are five trophies, one for each stroke.  The swimmer who achieves the highest placement in each stroke at national or NSW state or country level receives the trophy.  The recipient will be selected based on the following criteria:

1.        Highest placed swimmer at National (open or age), State (open or age) or Country championships wins.

2.        If there are no swimmers at national level, the award goes to a NSW state swimmer.

3.        A placing at an open meet takes precedence over a placing at an age event, eg, a 5th place at open nationals will win the award over a 2nd place at age nationals.

4.        If there are no swimmers at national or NSW state level, the award goes to a swimmer at NSW Country championships.

5.        If no swimmer achieves country level the award will not be presented.

6.        If 2 swimmers or more share the same placing at the same level meet the stoke award will be awarded to the highest scoring swim using the Australian Age Pointscore System or a similar system.

Age is not a barrier to this award, for example a 10 year may achieve higher placing than an older swimmer in the same stroke, ie,  even if the older swimmer has a faster time it is the placing that determines the recipient (eg, 10 yr old placed 10th and 15 yr old placed 12th at State Age).

Other Awards for 2009

Development Series Awards (at Presentation Day)

It is a CASC tradition to give a trophy to those CASC swimmers who come first in their age group and division for both winter and summer development series.  This series is run by Swimming ACT and there is more information about it on their website.  All new and development swimmers are encouraged to attend these meets.

Medallions are presented to those swimmers who come second or third in their age group and division for both winter and summer development series.

Club Championship

Swimmers who win their age group at club championships will receive a medallion.  There are no awards for second or third placings or individual races.

The winners will be determined using the current point scoring system for Club Championships (detail is in the Club Handbook) and age group categories as for CASC Age Champions (see above).
